My database is quite large ( 272 GB) and utilizes a TAR technique for the backup process. After conversion to Lion and Lion Server, I began having the kernel problems and crashes with Raid Panic error messages during backups of my database.

I use it to run a medical practice database with third party software (MacPractice.) I never had any issues with Snow Leopard. I have 4 Apple 2TB hard disks in Raid 5 configuration. I have a MacPro server with 12 cores (two 2.93 CPU's) and 64GB of OWC RAM. I experienced this same problem, and the suggestions in this support community were extremely helpful.
